We are delighted to share with you two events taking place this month:

The North West Science Network's first Twilight talk for 2022-23 is on Wednesday 9th November.

About this event

“Seeing is Believing: How seeing atoms using electron microscopes advances physics, chemistry and biology” by Professor Pete Nellist FRS, Professor of Materials, University of Oxford. This talk will be delivered at the NWSN Blackburn College Hub and live streamed for Cheshire pupils and teachers to watch and save on travel expenses (Teams link to follow) To attend in person please register for your ticket here Twilight Talk at Blackburn College Tickets, Wed 9 Nov 2022 at 17:00 | Eventbrite

In this talk, Pete will explain why it is impossible to see atoms using a light microscope, but why it is possible in an electron microscope. He will explain the types of things we can see in an electron microscope, the uses of electron microscopes in developing new battery materials, new catalysts for using hydrogen as a fuel, and imaging viruses.

The talk will be designed to build on ideas within the A-level Physics, Chemistry and Biology specifications, and will be aimed at Year 12 students, but will be accessible for KS 4 students also.

Online interview workshop Yr 13 is on Friday 18th November 4.15 - 5 pm
